Who is PA0RPA
Hello,
My
first name is Rob and I live in Bergen op Zoom, a city in the
southwest of the Netherlands.
I have
been a radio amateur since 1972 and my call sign is PA0RPA.
I am a
former radio field engineer and I worked in radio technology for 36
years for the Dutch PTT, which later became KPN (Royal Post and
Telephony Netherlands).
The
first 10 years were at a radio and television tower in Goes, about 40
kilometers away from Bergen op Zoom.
After
that, I worked in the mobile radio and marine radio service of the
same company throughout the Netherlands.
I
maintained large radio systems for marine radio customers and later
also the first public wireless telephone systems.(now called GSM)
I have
now been retired for 18 years and have plenty of time for our
wonderful radio hobby.
I also
design and maintain the amateur repeaters here in Bergen op Zoom,
together with three other dedicated radio amateurs.
We
have, among others, a 2-meter, a 70-cm, and a 10-meter repeater, as
well as a D-star repeater.
To be
able to do this, we established a foundation 17 years ago, which is
entirely dependent on donations from amateurs in the region and a few
sponsors.

The
website is in Dutch, but in the top right corner of the first page
you can see that it can be translated into three languages.
My
interest lies specifically in repeater technology, mainly driven by
my living situation: an apartment building on the fifth floor with
only a south-east facing balcony.
Therefore,
antennas for shortwave are only possible to a very limited extent.
VHF, UHF, and 10 meters are still manageable.
I hope
to be able to connect with many of the members of this wonderful
website on the amateur frequencies and wish you all the best and
