City of Eyl

Eyl, also known as Illig, is an ancient port town in the northeastern Nugal region of Puntland Somalia. It's one of the four districts of the Nugal region. Eyl, temporarily became a government-in-exile haven for the Dervish State and acted as a capital between 1905 and 1908. Thereafter, the Dervish state once again returned to its capital at Taleh, thus making the latter half of the 1900s decade a period of relative amicability between the Dervish state and surrounding colonial powers. Eyl is best known as the terminus and mouth of the seasonal and intermittent Nugal river.
