Sunspot number, 30 days
How to read these numbers
Solar flux (SFI). The 10.7 cm radio flux follows the Sun’s ionising output. Above about 100 the upper bands (15, 12, 10 m) open regularly; below 80 they stay mostly closed. Read the SFI guide.
Sunspots. The sunspot number follows the 11-year solar cycle and relates closely to the flux: use the converter. Sunspot guide.
K-index and A-index. Measures of geomagnetic disturbance. Low values mean stable propagation; from Kp 5 up (NOAA G1 to G5) high-latitude paths degrade. K and A index guide.
X-ray flux. Flares of class M and X can black out HF on the sunlit side of Earth (NOAA R1 to R5). Flares and blackouts.
Solar wind and Bz. A fast solar wind with a sustained southward (negative) Bz drives geomagnetic storms and aurora, even at mid latitudes.
