About This Service
Where the data comes from, how positions are computed, and the limits you should know.
Data and credits
- Orbital elements: GP / OMM data of the US Space Force 18th Space Defense Squadron, distributed by CelesTrak. They are downloaded by the server a few times a day and stored here.
- Amateur radio data: names, status and transmitters from the SatNOGS DB (CC BY-SA), refreshed every few hours.
- Method: SGP4 / SDP4 analytical propagator, the standard model for these elements. The code is a translation of the public reference implementation and was checked against it: positions agree to better than a micrometre on a set of test orbits, including geostationary, GPS and Molniya orbits. In the browser the open-source satellite.js (MIT) runs the same model.
- Maps: coastlines from Natural Earth (public domain), drawn by this site. No map tiles, CDN or tracking service is involved in the live view. Day and night are computed from the Sun’s position.
Limits
- Positions are predictions from public elements, accurate to a few kilometres at best. Do not use them for navigation, collision avoidance or any safety-critical purpose.
- Objects whose elements are not public (some military satellites) are absent or approximate.
- The frequencies of amateur satellites are nominal and change; operators can switch transponders on and off at any time.
- Pass times assume a clear, flat horizon at sea level. Hills and buildings near you change when a satellite really appears.
Privacy
The live view, passes and Doppler run in your browser. Your location is stored only in your browser’s local storage and is never uploaded.
Freshness of the data

Positions are computed from public orbital elements (CelesTrak / US Space Force 18th SDS) with the SGP4 model and are accurate to a few kilometres; amateur radio data from the SatNOGS DB (CC BY-SA).
